all I see

is mere reflected light!

light bounces into my eager eyes

off of the surfaces of various forms, shapes

the nature and properties of which

I deduce, or do not

as I look

as i am gazing now

into the colorful star you are

my mind racing to discern truths encoded there

in your posture, facial expression

written in hair and skin

your frown-smile

I’ve come to know so well

which seems always to say, “What is it?”

as if I’m really aware what anything is

underneath all the light everywhere

beyond the simple fact

I love you
